I’m taking Advanced Painting one and two at PSU this school year. Our assignment for the Fall Quarter was to create 50 paintings based off of a list assigned by my professor, Susan Harlan.
I thought I’d do a little Kobayashi Maru and bypass the assignment sheet by doing the first 25 as three rows with the arc of a day and the three faces I use; the sunny facade, the real me and the kid who’s scared shitless most of the time. It did not bode well as they say. The professor made an example of me, the other students called it “corporate art” and I left that day with my tail between my legs.
Needless to say, I redid the first 25 and followed the assignment sheet for the next round of 15.

These pieces helped me break the block of painting so tightly. The majority were used as the base for INRI.
