Monotype and Oil on Hardboard 24″x 48″
Cumulos Lunas came to me during a fever pitched creative session in the Winter of 2010. I’d just moved into my new studio in the Rivoli Art Mill in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I’d gathered a bunch of gessoed boards and spent a day making acrylic washes on them. This piece was the fourth in the stack, the second of the largest abstracts I’d attempted, the first was PolyPloidy. I wasn’t really happy with this piece until I turned it vertically. It was then that I saw the moon about halfway down and started painting the clouds. It had a nice rainbow through it originally, I tried my best to leave it intact but it just didn’t work with the composition.
