Monotype and Oil on Hardboard 24 x 48″
I worked with Lilith Marie on my first mandala. It was a breakthrough piece for me. When it came time to make something for her, she asked for a dress along the lines of Kali’s Raiment. We made two prints, one warm and defined (featured first), the other murky and ambiguous.
In the course of rendering both, I found the dark one spoke to me the most, pulling me into the glowing mud. The painting became more cohesive as I worked. The light one, in turn, I left less in focus. The dark painting is how I see without my glasses, large blobs and spheres. I can just about make out Lilith’s face in the dress’ womb.
