Paean Vessel

Monotype and Oil on Hardboard 24″x 48″

I started painting again last week, specifically on my abstract series. I haven’t done any work on this series since I left the Rivoli in September of last year. I’ve just rented a new studio in Portland, which is small but well suited to painting. I bought a drop cloth and some ground, borrowed my friend Crystal’s gesso and asked Aspen, a wonderful model here in Portland, to be my brush. We created six pieces that afternoon, this is the first of those, entitled “Paean Vessel”. It’s Aspen’s favorite and was a joy to complete. I refrained from using any oil on this, this finish is done in layers of colored pencil. It resembles encaustic in places. It feels like waves crashing.
