From a 30 minute pose at the end of a three hour session.
I do several gestures to warm up and I hit my stride in those 30 minuters. Painters talk about the muse and not being aware of what’s going on when they’re in a trace state. It happened to me with this painting. Viewers see so many different things in this; a mother nursing a child, a figure holding it’s guts in. It’s the power in the arm that does it for me, the strain of holding the rope.
